Another update and picture give-away winner

It has been a busy couple of weeks but finally this weekend I managed some progress on the dollhouse.

As some of you know, we run an auction house.  Last weekends auction was a very large firearms sale, so it was 10 days without a break in preparation for it.  I am quite small in stature ( under 5') so handling large weapons is a bit difficult for me.  We had set up all the long guns and rifles for a video and then had to move them all back to the gun vault, so last Thursday was spent running heavy, ugly guns in and out of the vault.  I think my arms are now two inches longer!!  I also managed to take a nice little chunk out of my finger with a Stanley knife so as well as having no strength left in my arms, I couldn't put any pressure down on my ruler to cut anything.  Luckily I am a quick healer.
Please see the progress made in the little kitchen.  I used scrap booking paper in place of wallpaper as I couldn't find a pattern I like on the internet and really didn't want to waste any more time waiting on the post.  I am happy with my choice.  I put a little lamp socket in the front hall in anticipation of a little lamp on a sideboard there.  I am having difficulty with distressing my little house.  I would like it as distressed as Leas but am worried about it looking dirty in the end.  I don't know where the line is.

Finally thank you for everyone who said they would like a copy of my little painting.  Randomly Neen has been chosen and I have sent off an email to ask which size would suit them.  Thank you also for suggestion on dollhouse names.  I haven't made up my mind yet, but one is in the running.  Everyone have a lovely week!

  1. Hello Sculptress,
I hope your finger is all better now. The room is looking beautiful. I don't think you could have found a nicer "wall paper".

  3. Looks already gorgeous :) Bravo !
    The wallpaper fits very well.
Don't be afraid of distressing. Just take much water and acryl color, handle like a aquarel, and you can overpaint it easily if you don't like it.
I hesitated too first, but now I'm very happy about the result.
Looking forward to your progress :)

    1. Thanks so much, I am using Lea's recipe but not sure if it is working for me or not....although I did knock the jar over last week and it did a pretty good job of distressing me as well as the carpeting!

  5. It's looking great. Don't be afraid of distressing it. Use a light colour though, and if you want to, you can go darker over the top. I always think things look better aged a bit. Even when I make something to look new, and then it sits there for a few months and I realise I just don't like it so much new. Then I just age it anyway and I like it!

  6. Hi Sculptress
I think the paper you chose for the room is just beautiful. A gorgeous subtle shade and pattern...really lovely. I hope the cut gets better, there's nothing nastier than being cut by a blade :(
    All the best

  8. Hi Sculptress! I have to say that your little French kitchen is totally charming and the wall paper that your decided on is Perfect for it.:D I have been using scrapbook paper for my dollhouse too, and love the beauty and the variety of the patterns, as well as the economy of them. I have however, learned that if I find a book that has the papers that I will be using, that it is best to buy 2 of the books that contain them. I have had the misfortune to run out of the 3 sheets per book, and that can be a real tragedy especially if the books are later discontinued. For me, it is better to have too much than be sorry that I have too little.
