Work continues on the Little French dollshouse albeit at a snail's pace. The front windows are in and the roof sides are on. I am on the last stretch. As per my usual MO I did put the windows in backwards. Nothing was lining up but that didn't stop me from persisting in trying to get them fitted. Finally when it was all finished the light went on and I had to strip them all out and start from scratch. Sigh.
Here is a shot of the dollshouse as it sits tonight with most of the work in the bedrooms completed.
Alison also was kind enough to send some metal furniture kits for me to play with and I couldn't resist. Here they are completed. I decided to gild them and I love the little toile fabric!! Her website is not taking any new orders until the end of February but I can't wait until she opens up as I need more little kits for the French house!

I am obsessed with the French Patisserie Laduree. Every since my first visit to Paris 10 years ago I have collected boxes, visited and gorged in every Ladurees I could get to. I have visited and photographed every restaurant in Paris including Versailles (not technically Paris, but close enough). I have also visited their location in Covent Gardens in England and most recently the new restaurant that opened up in Vancouver Canada. So now I need my own little Ladurees in miniature.

I have chosen to do it as a room box which I ordered from Victoria Miniland. Unfortunately they did not my first choice for store front, but this one I think will serve the purpose and be just as lovely.

I am wanted to do this little project simply and have selected little battery operated lighting so I don't need to wire it. Really I just want a simple project to play in.
This will be my counter, although this picture is not it quite in it's finished state. See all my tiny macarons?? Aren't they sweet??

I wanted the look of the Laduree counter with the glass guard and lamps and that took some thinking on how I could achieve it simply using my limited skill set and brain power. I settled on glass slides and brass 1/8" angle plus curved round brass and glass beads for the lamps. The original plan was to add little shades, but I kind of like the look of the bare bulbs. I used free counter top samples from the hardware store to mimic the look of the marble slabs.
I am working on creating all the tiny little boxes and ribbon rolls.

Had to share pics of SOME of the Laduree boxes I have collected in my travels at the end of this post.

Laduree Vancouver in January of this year with my long suffering husband who literally follows me to wherever I want to go. Luckily he is well fed for all his efforts.

Now I am thinking that I may add a tea room over the top of my little Ladurees in the future.

I know it has been awhile but work continues on the little French doll house. The first of the three mansard roof windows is installed and the other two are ready to be assembled. All their components are ready to go. I could finish the exterior of the house quite quickly if I just buckle down and make time to get it done. I am looking forward to that bit.

I did work on another miniature project over the Christmas break. It was a little 1:44th scale house I picked up a few years ago at the Kensington Dollhouse Festival in England. It is the Georgian Rectory from Templewood Miniatures, www.fineflowersinminiature.com
It it such a lovely little project and I am thoroughly pleased with the results, but it was a challenge. It actually took 3 full days to complete.

The kit came complete with miniature, wee tiny painting and frames, little rugs and lino for hallways and kitchen. I must admit, I used many bright coloured paints and every accessory the kit provided.

You may notice that you are seeing the front parts of the staircase in one view and the back in the other. That is because the house open on both sides so you can see a full view of your work.
I decided to do a little decorating today of the dollhouse bathroom. Pictures will need frames and it is probably not going to be the finished look but it was fun to put up a bit of wallpaper and add some fixtures and fittings. I love the way the wallpaper fades.
We are taking a snow day here in Edmonton, Alberta. Okay it is Saturday but still....
We were expecting accumulations over 20-30cm according to the weather forecast yesterday.

The thermostat kept dipping lower and lower and with what we were expecting, we shut up the auction house early and everyone headed to the grocery shop (wine store) to stock up on provisions in anticipation of a weekend indoors.

Well, the storm managed to mostly miss us, we are just getting the corner of it. We still have accumulations of over 10cm so far and it is still snowing but I think we have been very lucky. My husband runs out and shovels every time the snow stops. You got to love his optimism.

So today I am working on the dollhouse roof. It is like doing Lego but you have to first make every brick.

I did originally find a bag of pre-cut cedar shingles and had thoughts of perhaps using them but alas, the scale was off and truthfully, that would be really lazy of me and I just know I would regret it in the end.

Also, just a side note. My lovely husband took my three year-old grandson downstairs a few weeks past and let him play in my dollhouse and he managed to take the inside kitchen door out of it's casing.

I did repair it and put in back in place and reprimanded my husband. Well lo & behold, they did it again and my husband decided to put the door away somewhere safe until I could reinstall it.

So safe that he actually lost it! We have searched for hours, no door. So right now he is doing major surgery getting the casing out ( he insists on doing it himself) and hopefully not damaging the floors. I have a replacement door that I will use IF he gets it out safely. The house is creaking so much, I opted to come upstairs to the computer and hope for the best. I will let you know how it turns out.

Please excuse the scruffy condition of my desk. I should have probably made it look like I work neatly but truthfully, I don't. I usually clean my desk and then end up working in an area the size of a dinner plate within the hour.

Anyway, everyone have a nice weekend and hopefully Spring is closer for you than it is for us. Did I mention we have book a little trip to Paris next month? Can't wait!!
Happy New Year to everybody. I hope you had a lovely Christmas. We had a wonderful family Christmas with four generation represented!

I wanted to share my little dollhouse kits that I received just after Christmas. They are from Artofmini.com, who, in my opinion have the very best dollhouse kits and accessories!

This is their little French desk kit to which I added tiny Swarovski crystal beads for the drawer handles. Also the little hat box kit as well as the French books in pink. Oh, and the laurel wreath kit, so fun to make.

On the top of the desk is my Mike Sparrow sterling silver fountain pen... the top is actually removable!! Note the drop of coffee in my Stokesay ware cup lol. That wasn't as easy as it appears to get situated without spilling.
I also bought their little French hall table to go in the front hall of my Lea Frisoni little French dollhouse. I did manage to do a mild crackle finish on the top which I am pleased with. I may do some more distressing with stain at some point but will wait until I am ready to decorate the house with it's furnishings. The clock is a kit from Artofmini.com too.
I did buy a few other little kits too ( Well I was paying for the postage anyway so...)
I will post them on my blogspot as they are completed.

I have recently started a course in Real Estate as well as my full time job so the house is on hold again or at least moving at as snails pace. These little kits give me near instant gratification and makes me feel like I haven't completely abandoned my little house.

Hope everyone has a great week and stays warm. I will try and do the same. Bye for now.
Success at last!

It has been a long time since I have even looked at my dollhouse. I have had such problems with the electrics for the sconce on the left side and after struggling with solder and new bulbs X 100, I finally decided to strip the whole wire and low and behold, there was a problem half way down. Anyhow, the wiring is done and now it I can move on up to the last floor. I have had the lights on in the little house for hours this weekend and just basked in the glow. It is such a cozy little room and I think my enthusiasm for the project has been reignited. So after a few minor details to finish up, it is onward and upward with one floor to go!
I also bought... wait for it....a long cased clock, well all but the clock bit. It came through the auction and all I could see was a grand room under the glass bonnet and rooms in the case. That will all have to wait for my retirement I suspect. My husband also thinks he can remove the panel at the bottom for another room box. Neat hey?
Working on the dollhouse parlour today and all is not well. I am having problems with the electrics. The two small sconces are now wired but won't work on the same power bar and even with two power bars and the sconces being the only thing on the power bars, the bulbs are very, very dim. I have a short somewhere?? I can't figure it out. Each sconce will dimly work individually but not together. Super frustrating.
This little house is going to be the death of me!

I made a little sliding door in the fireplace opening so I could get at the electrics if needed, or that was the plan... I had to pull the whole wall away and that is how it is sitting at the minute. I need to figure this all out.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the parlour. I haven't decided what to do for an overmantle yet, and the crown molding is cut and painting waiting for the problems to get sorted and then the ceiling/ floor can go up.

Hope everyone had a lovely peaceful and healthy Christmas. Ours was a bit of a challenge this year as we are now too many to fit comfortably in our smaller accommodations.

It has been a loooong time since my last post. My husband put all my dollhouse activities on hold while he created me a work space in the basement of our new much smaller home. Workshop construction was nearly as slow as dollhouse construction.

I now have lots of lots of cabinetry to house dolls, collectible and miniature, plus tons of bright lighting and a fireplace to keep my feet warm as I work. It really is a nice room to work in. Unfortunately I am having problems getting my ipad to email pictures to share and can't seem to sign into my own flickr account. Let's just say, I need a child to get me sorted out.

So I decided to share a tiny little quarter scale German Christmas market kit I did a few days ago. I was having mini withdrawals and ordered this darling kit from Cynthia Howe Miniatures. I found a tiny little bell cloche that fits it perfectly. Hopefully now my space is sorted, I can get some help with the computery things and start posting again. Fingers crossed my little French dollhouse will be completed in the coming calendar year.

I know I haven't posted on my blog for quite a few month. Work and sheer laziness have been my downfall. I want so desperately to play in my completed little French house and I can't do that if I don't finish. So thanks to a long rainy weekend I did manage to spend some time on construction. You would be shocked to hear how many hours were spent just to get this far and yes, I did have to do it twice as per my usual MO.

If my work space seems a bit messy, note I cleared the table before starting this wall and this is just how I work it seems. FYI I am terrible, shockingly terrible at cutting casings. I will persevere.

I was also able to finish the parquet flooring for the main room. I stained and waxed it in situ and need to do a major clean up of my work area before starting on the living room wall. Fingers crossed I have all I need to complete the living room.
It is 11 pm and my fingers are now numb so dollhouse flooring will continue in the morning. I have been working on this all day and hand cutting each and every tiny piece. I did however make one major mistake ( I know, I am just as surprised as you are!).

When resizing the template for the each floor tile, I sized the tile with the outer frame to 8cm X 8cm. The template size was right but it was only suppose to be in the inside tile sans frame. So as a result each tile is 1cm smaller than it is suppose to be.

I have bought enough wood planking to do a full sized house so I could have restarted but I was already many, many hours in when the penny dropped I and decided to continue as is. The pattern will be slightly smaller, so a little more delicate and I can live with that.
I wanted to also share with you the news that beloved miniature artist Jane Newman recently passed. I don't have any details and found out via a posting on facebook from Kensington Miniature Enthusiasts and borrowed the above picture from their post also.

I am a collector and lover of all things Jane Newman since I started back into miniature in earnest a few years ago. I have been fortunate to have been able to acquire quite a few pieces including Welsh dressers, tables, chairs, washstands, a tiny bed and bedroom pieces. I cherish them all. Jane's work was pure perfection and her scale was spot on. The miniature world has lost a huge star.

Okay it is past midnight and my numb fingers and mushy brain can't type or think anymore. Everyone have a grand week!

This is the completed hallway. I have been using little brass grommets to make it easier to align the staircase railing. I like the way it looks and lines up. I haven't found any of my dollhouse furniture and accessories so it is rather uninteresting at the minute.
Unfortunately I spent a good hour or so opening boxes to find my plaster brick making kit that was bought to do the bathroom wall. When it was finally located I realized that I had ordered the slate tile plaster kit not the brick kit. So back to the internet to place another order with The Little Dollhouse Company and now we wait....
I haven't shabbied up the walls of the bathroom yet, but wanted to show of my handmade bead board using cardboard and a utility knife. I am quite pleased with the way it turned out.

I have applied one coat of wax to the floor, but it needs more and then a good old hand polish. Oh, and I put together my little Chrysnbon bathroom kit which is so sweet and perfectly proportioned in my humble opinion.

Last New Years Eve found me working on the dollshouse. I believe I was making the staircase for the first floor. This New Years Eve I am installing the second floor staircase and trying to complete the second floor landing.

I love the style of this little house, although you want to do the best you can, imperfection is all part of the charm. I actually anticipate finishing the landing and bathroom this weekend as most of the components are already mostly made, so it is simply assembly. Although I don't have the wax needed for the bathroom floor to have finished it so I will have do some shopping.
I can't believe it has been 6 months since my last posting! My husband and I made the decision to downsize our older home and move. Whew, if I had actually realized what downsizing and building a new smaller home meant, I don't think we would have done it.

I could write a book on homes behaving badly as the old house definitely made it clear that it was not happy to be abandoned. Along the other little eccentricities that required attention our water heater burst hours before an inspection! Anyhow, we are in now in X 1 week ( I don't recommend moving at Christmas either) and with my own things now surrounding me, it is feeling more like a home and less like a hotel.

A lot of my collectibles are in a storage pod, but I did keep the little French dollshouse project in my possession as I had hoped to work on it in between packing and moving but alas it didn't happen.

Let me share with you all the first pictures of my new home which we have dubbed "the dollshouse" because it is so basically a one room kitchen, dining and living room.

Today we unpacked the dollshouse and my husband set up a table on a large rug in our new but unfinished basement. Unfortunately the lighting is so poor that I will have to remedy that before work can resume. Tomorrow we are heading to the hardware store to purchase better lighting and I noticed that most of my glue has dried up so that is on the list too.

I managed to find most of the windows for the second floor and get them together. Baby steps. I received Lea's book in English from my daughter-in-law so the build is now one year and counting.

Anyhow, I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and I wish you all a Happy New Year!

Dollhouse building has slowed to a crawl. With playing catch up at work, grand babies and just summer, nothing is getting done.

I did however finally manage to complete my second floor stair case which proved very difficult for me this time. I couldn't get the railing to fit right and ended up extending the two wire stair rails on the first two steps in order to get things to look right. The rail is a little wavy looking but I suspect that won't be noticed once the bathroom door is in. Plus the living room/hallway wall is too tall so that will have to be cut down before I can continue.

I have also repainted the front hall. What seemed like a hint of peach read as deep peach in such a confined space so I have painted it cream so it matches the kitchen and ultimately the rest of the house better. I am contemplating changing the front hall ceiling fixture as I have managed to obtain one like the one used by Lea on the picture of her book. I think I might move this one up a floor and have the hallway behind the bathroom lit up. Hopefully I will find the time and more over the motivation to work on the little house. If I actually worked on it instead of just thinking about working on it, I am sure I would be nearly done by now.
Back from Kensington dollshouse festival 2015! What a wonderful show and a great week in London. Back to work and reality now. Before we left for Great Britain we had just secured a contract to auction the contents of the oldest bed and breakfast in Edmonton. 26 rooms of antiques, mostly bedroom suites, but also little settee, desks, chairs and sideboards etc.as well as artworks. While we were gone the rest of the gang photoed and catalogued most of the contents and today is finishing typing up the catalogue before the trucks come to haul it all back to the auction house which I have been informed looks like a bomb went off sigh....

I managed to acquire some of my beloved Stokesay ware in the Willow blue as I was determined to do before I set off. It is now set out on one of my Jane Newman sideboards and safely in the cabinet.

I am filled with inspiration since my visit but alas I didn't find too much to go in my little French house ala Lea Frisoni. I did get some more lime wood the day before I left so I can start making my Versaille floors for the sitting room. I also bought some lino flooring for the second floor hallway as the piece I had would have had to be pieced and I was not happy about that at all.

I sure anyone who has decided to follow this blog will soon tire of the endless photos from the festival but word of warning, once I figure out how to work the camera card, that is what it will be.

Have a lovely week everybody!

I wish I could say that a lot of progress has been made on my little French house since my last post, but alas.... this is not the case.

I have managed to get the skeleton of the second floor stair case done but I need to cut the wooden steps and add the railing yet.

Last week we had a two day auction which always stresses me out, plus I thought I could slip in a side trip with some friends between the evening auction preview on the Friday night and the actually auction on the Sunday morning. Long days of auction prep. coupled with no sleep culminated into a disastrous evening out at a restaurant with my husband involving a pair of crab claw crackers, a cup of hot coffee and a cold ride home because he made me sit on my coat so I didn't stain the car seats. Add two stressful days of auctions and I have been a walking zombie. Luckily, I did managed to shop.

I actually did put together a little Icelandic poppy kit (above) from Pascale Garnier while watching television last week. The carpet is from Lavenderdilly on etsy.

Again above, Lavenderdilly carpet and the laundry rack and basket plus gorgeous roses are ala Lea Frisoni at AtelierdeLea on etsy.
A bought the little chair from PetiteCollections on etsy as I thought it would match my settee made by Lea.

The lovely little crate is from Pipi Turner, whose site is beyond inspiring! http://www.miniatures-pipiturner.com

It is less than a month to the London Dollhouse Festival and I am beyond excited. Unfortunately I have another two day auction to put together before then so no play time or days off in my immediate future.... unless I get sick...cough... cough.

First floor landing is complete!... well, I do have to fix one minor boo
boo. Although I had thought that I had fixed my socket into my wall
very securely, I neglected to glue it to something behind the foam core
and when I went to plug a lamp into the hallway I pushed the socket
right through the wall. Anyhow, I had to cut through the wall, dig out
the socket and stuff some wood behind it. The wall is now patched and
drying. I don't think I will be trying to pull the lamp plug out of the
socket any time soon. There goes my plans of having a lit up Jack- o-
lantern at Halloween.

Picture this with the requisite French shabby Chic furnishings and not the bits and pieces I am having to make do with for now.
I was a bit disappointed at my front hall floor, it was an awful lot of hand cutting and I ended up installing it slightly crooked, but I have moved on.
My plan now is to have a good old tidy up and organize everything and then start the second floor.
I have finally finished the kitchen on my little French house. I am quite happy with the kitchen floor, especially the colour. I had originally bought a paint colour called Spanish Tile which I thought I would like but it actually looked a lot like pasta sauce spread all over the floor. I added some cream paint on top and it looked like pasta sauce with cheese, complete disaster. The floor is now a kind of putty greenish colour and I waxed it before and after grouting and it has a lovely sheen to it. I added a mantle over the space reserved for a stove and the little shelves in the end cupboard plus the roof lighting and a gas meter for effect.

The little roses on the table started as a little kit which took me HOURS to do! Hndreds of tiny tissue paper tear drop petals to be shaped and glued one by one. No wonder it is so expensive to buy handmade dollhouse flowers.

That is all for this week, I hope to be able to show you the completed front hall next week, I am close, but am still working on the floor. I love dollhouse Sundays! but I wish there were more of them in a week.

Have a lovely week everyone!!

I was so thrilled this week to find a receive my little parcel from Lea Frisoni in France. It contained my new little dollhouse settee and two cushions. How perfect are they?? I can't wait to move upstairs to the lounge where I plan to utilize some cranberry toile paper I bought on my first visit to Lea's shop Dentelles et Ribambelles in Paris. I think it will go perfectly with this little couch!

I didn't manage any work on the dollhouse until today but I finished the stucco wall in the kitchen and as is my usual modus operandi, I had to do it twice! Really, I think I must be building two houses, one for me and one for the garbage!

I still haven't really distressed anything yet. I think it is the last thing I will do before I move to the second floor. I also including my little dollhouse cat I made. I gave him a bath because he seemed a bit to fluffy, now, he is a little too, well non-fluffy.

One more picture before I blog off. This is the first day of spring where I live. Yep, no ice-tea on the porch for me yet. Just a face full of frozen fed up of winter tears. Sigh....

Have a wonderful week everybody!
It has been a busy couple of weeks but finally this weekend I managed some progress on the dollhouse.

As some of you know, we run an auction house. Last weekends auction was a very large firearms sale, so it was 10 days without a break in preparation for it. I am quite small in stature ( under 5') so handling large weapons is a bit difficult for me. We had set up all the long guns and rifles for a video and then had to move them all back to the gun vault, so last Thursday was spent running heavy, ugly guns in and out of the vault. I think my arms are now two inches longer!! I also managed to take a nice little chunk out of my finger with a Stanley knife so as well as having no strength left in my arms, I couldn't put any pressure down on my ruler to cut anything. Luckily I am a quick healer.

Please see the progress made in the little kitchen. I used scrap booking paper in place of wallpaper as I couldn't find a pattern I like on the internet and really didn't want to waste any more time waiting on the post. I am happy with my choice. I put a little lamp socket in the front hall in anticipation of a little lamp on a sideboard there. I am having difficulty with distressing my little house. I would like it as distressed as Leas but am worried about it looking dirty in the end. I don't know where the line is.

Finally thank you for everyone who said they would like a copy of my little painting. Randomly Neen has been chosen and I have sent off an email to ask which size would suit them. Thank you also for suggestion on dollhouse names. I haven't made up my mind yet, but one is in the running. Everyone have a lovely week!
